Meanwhile I was approved to enter the US on behalf of the Munich embassy. There was quite some e-Mail conversation involved.
Now I'm going to book a 1-way flight to LAX and hope to be back before christmas.

Last Friday I talked to my boss A. He suggested, before I transfer to Germany, first I need to come back to California. Otherwise how to go >>back<< to Germany.
This morning I wrote an NIE *) application to the US embassy in Munich, asking for allowance to enter the US in CoViD times. It shall take 3 week to get the answer.
How to book the flight then?
How long to stay?
How long to self isolate then - or - can a test replace the quarantine?
Anyway, I am supposed to be back 2 months after leaving California, so that would be end of October-ish.
Looking forward to be another month in the Golden State.
*) National interests exception. All European embassies give information, but these are slightly different. Gathering all information, I was able to set up a letter with hopefully all necessary information inside.
